What's New at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in 2015

September 09, 2015 | Football

Aside from the construction project at the south end of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, University of Louisville football fans will experience new features for the 2015 season.

Wheelchair Assistance
Starting for the 2015 fall football season, for all UofL home games, wheelchair assistance will be available for fans needing aid from the stadium entry gates to the seating section where they are seated.  Fans can connect with the nearest usher/security guard at every stadium gate and ask for assistance.  Fan Assistance staff will arrive with a wheelchair and provide assistance to the fan in need.  This service will be provided both before and after UofL football games.  Fans should contact the stadium office at 502-852-0083 prior to leaving their seats so a Fan Assistance staff member can meet the fan, then provide a ride to either the Accessible Shuttle Service golf carts at Gate 5 or the nearest stadium exit gate.  Please be advised that staff will not leave the stadium.  Any fan in need of assistance to their vehicle in either the Bronze or Green parking lots will need to utilize the Accessible Shuttle Service golf carts located at Gate 5.

Pedestrian Track Crossing Closed
The pedestrian railroad crossing that was open for the University of Louisville's first home football game of the season will be closed for tonight's game against Clemson.  CSX has elected to keep the gates closed until further notice.  The opening staffed by security personnel had allowed fans traveling on foot from areas west of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium to cross the tracks before and after the game.  Access to the stadium from the west remains available by walking across the Central Avenue overpass.

Texting
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium staff will have the ability to receive text messages from fans that want to report unruly fan behavior or any other issue without leaving their seat.  Text "VILLE" with the issue and location to 69050.  A stadium staff member will respond that the text message has been received and will work to ensure the issue is being attended to.

Improved Cell Signal for Verizon Customers
Verizon is completing a temporary Distributed Antenna System that is being mounted above the Howard Schnellenberger Complex.  This system will improve cell signal in the stadium for Verizon customers.

Lactation Locations
A curtained area for mothers to breast feed their children is available within Customer Relations booths located at Sections 108, 120 and 132.

Accessible Shuttle Service
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium will continue to provide golf carts throughout the stadium Bronze and Green lots for patron assistance to and from the stadium for every home game.  These carts will be easily identifiable with new signage being placed on the carts to help make them more visible.  The golf carts will help fans with accessibility needs make the trip from the parking lot to the stadium gates.  The carts are designed to transport one customer in need of assistance and one companion.  Fans parking in any of the Green lots should walk to the west drive lane to find the Accessibility Shuttle Service.  At the conclusion of the game, golf carts will be stationed at Gate 5 for transport back to vehicles.  Fans will find new seating and queuing areas outside Gate 5 after games to help provide fans areas to sit while waiting for the carts as they take fans to their vehicles.

Fans should also look for the shuttle bus that is operated by Free Enterprise Systems, which makes trips through the Green lots starting 3 hours prior to kickoff and operates until kick-off.  This shuttle runs up and down the west drive lane and is there to help fans ride to the Card March festivities on game days as well as aiding fans seeking assistance get to the stadium before kickoff.

New LED Displays
PJCS is installing the last 11 new 46" LED outdoor televisions to the main concourse.  Gone are the old tube televisions.  Fans will now find the new 46" displays hung all the way around the main concourse showing the game, giving our fans a chance to visit concession stands and not miss a single minute of action.

Thorntons Academic Center of Excellence Construction
The south end of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is under construction with the Thorntons Academic Center of Excellence being built under the Norton Healthcare Terrace.  While much of the interior of the south end will be fenced off for construction purposes, fans will see minimal changes to the previous game-day setup. Fans will still be able to enter and exit the south end of the stadium where Gate 4 is located.  However, please be advised that this entry and pathways will be a compacted gravel surface and fans with ADA needs should not utilize Gate 4, but go to either Gate 3 or 5 to access and exit the stadium on game days.
