Campbell drives in three runs and scores four times; Miller earns first win with three scoreless innings of relief

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sophomore Drew Campbell had three RBIs and scored four runs while freshman righthander Bobby Miller pitched three dominant innings of relief as the No. 13 Louisville baseball team closed the Charleston Crab House Challenge with a 15-8 win over George Mason on Sunday at Joseph P. Riley Park.

Along with his run-scoring production, Campbell finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple as the Cardinals overcame an early 6-0 deficit to clinch their third straight victory to begin the season. Facing a six-run deficit, Louisville started its comeback with a five-run second inning en route to its largest comeback win since overcoming an 8-1 deficit in a 14-8 win against Arkansas State on Feb. 21, 2015. Making his second start of the weekend in left field, Campbell added a walk and was hit by a pitch as George Mason (0-3) issued seven HBPs in the game.

Junior Devin Mann continued his impressive weekend at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Sunday's win. The Columbus, Indiana native closed the three-game visit to Charleston hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a home run, seven RBIs and four walks. Sophomore Justin Lavey added two hits, including a double, with two RBIs and one run scored, while sophomore Tyler Fitzgerald singled, was hit by a pitch, drove in two runs and scored once.

Making his first collegiate appearance, Miller twirled three shutout innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts to earn the victory. Freshman lefthander Reid Detmers finished with seven strikeouts and allowed one run in three innings of relief in his first career outing, while senior Rabon Martin had three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Patriots came out of the gate fast on Sunday scoring six runs on four hits in the first inning. Tim Quinn earned a bases loaded walk to plate the first run, while Tyler Nelin delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to center for the second run. Scott Morgan extended the lead to 5-0 by sending a 0-1 pitch from junior Liam Jenkins over the right field wall. Michael Smith added a two-out RBI double later in the inning to cap the six-run frame.

The Cardinals wasted little time answering George Mason after scoring five runs in the second inning against lefty Brian Marconi. Lavey started things for Louisville with his RBI double to left field to send sophomore Ethan Stringer home. Campbell followed with a two-run triple to right center to send freshman Zach Britton and Lavey home. Fitzgerald provided the fourth run of the inning with his RBI sacrifice fly to right to score Campbell. Junior Josh Stowers walked and moved to second on a balk before scoring on a RBI single through the left side by sophomore Jake Snider.

George Mason pushed its lead to 7-5 in the third inning on a two-out RBI single through the left side by Logan Driscoll. Louisville answered with a run in the fourth inning to cut the margin to 7-6 after Mann drove Campbell home with a two-out RBI single through the left side.

The Cardinals evened the score with a run in the sixth inning when Stowers connected on a RBI single to left field to score Campbell. Louisville gained its first lead of the afternoon in the seventh inning registering a four-run frame on three hits. After scoring the first run of the inning following a pair of errors by the Patriots, UofL added its second run of the inning on a RBI groundout by Lavey to score sophomore Logan Wyatt. Campbell added a RBI double to center and Fitzgerald chipped in with a RBI single to close the inning.

Louisville added to the lead in the eighth inning on a two-run single to left off the bat of Britton, while Mann delivered the final two runs of the game for the Cardinals with his two-run single in the ninth. George Mason added a final run in the ninth inning to end a stretch of 10 straight runs for Louisville.

Up next, No. 13 Louisville is slated to host Eastern Kentucky in the 2018 home-opener at Jim Patterson Stadium on Wednesday at 3 p.m., ET.
