Adel, Spalding, Mahmoud Earn ACC Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three University of Louisville men's basketball players have earned ACC postseason honors. Junior forwards Deng Adel and Ray Spalding have been selected as honorable mention All-ACC selections while senior center Anas Mahmoud was named to the ACC All-Defensive team.
Adel has been the Cardinals' scoring leader in 13 games, including most recently leading UofL with 20 points and seven rebounds at NC State last Saturday. A 6-5 forward from Melbourne, Australia, he has averaged 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists over the last five games after missing two games with an ankle injury. Adel, who is 11th in the ACC in scoring averaging 15.5 points per game, has eight 20-point scoring efforts in his last 33 games, including six this season. He has scored at least nine points in each of his games this season and has 54 career double figure scoring efforts (28 of 29 this season). Adel is a finalist for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award.
Spalding has averaged 12.0 points and 8.8 rebounds (fifth in the ACC and 44th in the nation) while leading the Cardinals in steals (11th in the ACC, 1.5 per game). A native of Louisville, the 6-10 Spalding is third in the ACC and 27th in the nation in offensive rebounding, averaging 3.19 per game. He has 10 double-doubles this season (sixth-most in the ACC) and 12 in his career. He blocked his 100th career shot against Virginia last Thursday and needs eight rebounds for 600 in his career, and needs nine points for 750 career points.
Mahmoud leads the ACC and is eighth in the nation in blocked shots, averaging 2.97 blocks a game. His 92 blocked shots this season are tied for the fourth-most in a single season at UofL and his 2.97 blocks per game is near UofL single-game leader Gorgui Dieng's top 3.2 average in 2011-12. A native of Cairo, Egypt, the 7-0 Mahmoud has averaged 7.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and shot 57 percent from the field this season. Mahmoud has blocked a shot in 82 career games and is fourth in career blocked shots at UofL with 206, two behind No. 3 Charles Jones. He is second among current ACC players in career blocks and is 11th among active NCAA Division I career leaders in blocked
UofL will be back in action on Wednesday in the 2018 New York Life ACC Tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y., when the ninth-seeded Cardinals (19-12, 9-9 ACC) face No. 8 seed Florida State (20-10, 9-9) at noon.
