Freshman Parker Wynn has won five straight matches to advance to the Southern Intercollegiate Championship Finals
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Louisville's Parker Wynn registered two singles wins on Sunday to advance to the Division II finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Tennis Championships.
Wynn, a freshman from North Richland Hills, Texas defeated South Carolina's Sam Swank 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and went on to beat Miami's Jesse Flores 6-0, 6-3 for his fifth straight victory in the tournament. Wynn will face top-seeded Johannes Ingildsen in the Division II finals on Monday.
Sophomore George Hedley won the first set of his Division II quarterfinal match against Mississippi State's Vaughn Hunter 6-3, but fell 6-4, 6-2 in the next two.
Playing in the Division I singles consolation round, sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff upset No. 76 and 16th-seeded Chas Perez Blanco from Florida 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, the team of Wynn and junior Nicolas Rouanet lost their Division II quarterfinal match 6-4 to Clemson's Christian Harris and Sam Edwards.
"I am excited for Parker who will be playing for a championship in his first collegiate tournament, "said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is playing better each round. He is such a coachable person so winning with him is a lot of fun. Even though we lost a big lead in doubles versus Clemson, we bounced back with good win with Chris defeating the 16th seed and 76th ranked Chase Perez Blanco of Florida. A quarterfinal showing is a solid effort for George."
