Warner-Savage Takes 60M Bronze in ACC Indoor Championships

February 27, 2021 | Track & Field

CLEMSON, S.C. – Sterling Warner-Savage earned the bronze medal in the 60m on the final day of the 2021 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex. The women finished in seventh while the men placed eight in the final standings.

"As you can see from the results this weekend, we have some areas that truly stand out within the ACC," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "We'll continue to build these areas toward the NCAA Indoor Championships in two weeks while the rest of our squads catch a well-deserved rest during our shortened spring break next week."

The men tallied 38.5 points to finish eighth. Virginia Tech won the men's championship with 136 points followed by North Carolina (81), Florida State (76) to round out the top three.

Junior Sterling Warner-Savage earned All-ACC first team honors while claiming the bronze medal in the finals of the 60m with a time of 6.676, edged by .005 by Florida State's Don'drea Swint who place second.

Cayden Spencer-Thompson placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 15.21m (49-11).

Cade Richeson led a trio of Cardinals in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 17.86m (58-7.25) to place eighth.

Freshman Shadrack Kipkosgei clocked a personal best time of 8:09.98 to finish 10th in the 3000

On the women's side, the Cardinals totaled 45 points. Florida State won the title with 94 points. Miami (85) and Virginia (71.5) finished second and third respectively.

Junior Emma Bryant finished seventh in the mile with a time of 4:48.26.

In the 3000, junior Purity Sanga ran her personal best of 9:33.67 to finish 17th in the field of 44.

In the shot put, senior Victoria Farley's throw of 13.52m (44-4.5) was good for 16th place.

Freshman Riley Burger's triple jump mark of 12.25m (39-6.75) placed eighth.

The day ended with a fifth place showing in the women's 4x400 relay as McKenzie Bell, Kiyah Yeast, Isabelle Angerman and Sharnae Alton turned in a season-best time of 3:48.88.

"Both squads have a solid foundation as we transition to the outdoor season in late March and we are looking forward to having our super seniors rejoin our travel squad this spring," said Cowper. "The leadership those individuals bring to our program can truly be a stimulus this spring."
