No. 2 Louisville Hosts Boston College on Thursday Night

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 2 University of Louisville women's basketball hosts Boston College (5-5, 1-5) on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. The game will broadcast on the ACC Network and 790-AM WKRD.
 
Louisville (10-0, 3-0) held at No. 2 in the Associated Press and USA Today polls after recording three wins last week.  They are coming off a 70-45 win over Clemson on Sunday. The Cardinals put on a defensive clinic in the win, limiting the Tigers to 27 percent shooting overall and 0-of-19 shooting from 3-point range.
 
On the season, opponents are shooting just 22 percent from deep against UofL, which leads the ACC and ranks 10th in the country. Four times the Cards have held their opponent below 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc - vs. DePaul (4-27, .148), at Duke (1-16, .063), Bellarmine (3-18, .167), Clemson (0-19, .000).
 
Louisville is allowing 58.5 points per game, which leads the ACC. They have held their opponent below 70 points in nine of 10 games, below 60 points five times and below 50 points three times.
 
Hailey Van Lith was named ACC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 11.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals, while shooting 10-10 from the free throw line in wins over UT Martin, Virginia Tech and Clemson. She is averaging 6.6 rebounds on the season, which ranks second on the team and sixth among ACC freshmen.
 
Dana Evans was not named ACC Player of the Week, but was deserving of the honor after averaging 20.3 points, while shooting 59.5 percent from the floor and 8-16 from deep, in those wins. She leads the ACC with 19.7 points per game and ranks fifth with 4.2 assists per game.
 
Elizabeth Balogun had her best game of the season in the win over Clemson, scoring a season-high 14 points and filling the stat sheet with six rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks. She is averaging 2.2 blocks per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
 
Boston College comes in with an overall record of 5-5, 1-5 in ACC play. The Eagles are in the middle of a three-game road trip, losing last time out, 48-68, to Wake Forest on Jan.10. The Eagles are led by junior Taylor Soule who has taken another step forward this season, averaging 16 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, after being honored as the 2020 ACC Most Improved player last season. Boston College forces turnovers at a high rate, ranking first in the ACC with 99 steals and 20.3 forced turnovers a game. Conversely, Boston College has struggled on the offensive side of the floor to this point of the season, shooting 38.2 percent from the field for an average of 69.2 points per game, ranking 13th and 12th in the ACC, respectively.
 
Series History - UofL is 8-1 all-time against Boston College. They are 7-0 since joining the ACC, 4-0 at the KFC Yum! Center and 3-0 in Chestnut Hill. The Cards' lone loss to the Eagles came on Dec. 28, 1985 (L, 74-68) in the NC State Christmas Tourney. Last year, UofL won 87-51 at the KFC Yum! Center. In the seven games since UofL joined ACC, the Cardinals have a +22.0 scoring margin against BC. The closest game between the two teams was a 55-45 win by UofL in Chestnut Hill on Feb. 21, 2016.

Last Meeting (Feb. 27, 2020) - No. 5 Louisville claimed their third straight ACC regular season title with a 68-48 win over Boston College. This was the first time Louisville has claimed an outright ACC title, it also marked the first outright regular season conference title since the Cardinals won the Conference USA regular season championship in 2000-01. Louisville shot 63.6 percent from the field and used a dominant second quarter, outscoring their opponent 26-7, to secure the home win. Kylee Shook led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
