Kouzelos Has Career Day in 1-0 Loss at Florida State

Senior Gabby Kouzelos had a career-high nine saves in Louisville’s 1-0 defeat at Florida State.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite senior goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos' career-high nine saves, University of Louisville women's soccer lost 1-0 at Florida State on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Seminoles improve to 2-0 and have yet to allow a goal on the young season.

"Although it's not the result we wanted, our performance today is absolutely one that will make us better moving forward," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "FSU is outstanding and we knew we would have to defend for large portions of the game. I'm very proud of our team and our effort today."
 
Louisville's best chance came at the 35th minute of the first half after Delaney Snyder was fouled, which set up a free kick near the corner. Emina Ekic delivered the free kick to the left side of the box and Sarah Hernandez's header was saved in the top left corner.
 
Florida State had eight shots in the first half, four of which were on goal, but Gabby Kouzelos saved all four, and the two teams went into the locker room at half with no score.
 
The Seminoles got on the board 15 minutes into the second half when Kouzelos come out of the box to cover the ball, but it came out of her grasp and Leilanni Nesbeth kicked it into the back of the net.
 
Florida State controlled possession in the second half and had several chances, but Kouzelos kept the Cardinals in the game.
 
Despite Kouzelos' strong play, Louisville struggled to create scoring chances and fell 1-0.
 
Louisville was outshot 26-2 and 10-1 on shots on goal.
 
Kouzelos finished the game with a career-high nine saves. Her previous career-high was six, which she had accomplished three times.
 
The Cardinals open the home portion of their schedule when they host Syracuse on Thursday, Oct. 1.
