SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Following a 74-43 win over 15-seed Marist on Monday night, University of Louisville women's basketball plays 7-seed Northwestern (16-8) in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. ET at the Alamodome. The game will broadcast on ESPN2 and 790-AM WKRD.

In the win over Marist, Louisville trailed 21-12 with 8:16 to go in the second quarter, but outscored the Red Foxes 62-22 the rest of the way. The Cardinals used runs of 17-3 and 22-1 to pull away and the defense limited the Red Foxes to just seven field goals combined in the second, third and fourth quarters, including one (1-12) in the third quarter.

UofL matched its best come-from-behind win of the season, rallying from nine down against Marist. They also came back from nine down (55-46) with 7:15 to go in the win at Wake Forest, outscoring the Deacons 19-8 the rest of the way. The nine-point rallies mark their largest comeback win since they came from 13 down in the first quarter against Duke on Jan. 5, 2020 (W, 60-55).

Norika Konno had six steals against Marist, marking a career high and the most by a Cardinal this season. It is also tied with Allison Bass (1998 vs. Utah) for the fifth most by a UofL player in an NCAA Tournament game. The school record for steals in an NCAA Tournament game by a Louisville player is 10 by Stephanie Edwards vs. Georgia in 1984.

Louisville is now 12-0 all-time in first round games under Coach Walz. They have been the higher seed in all 12 games. UofL's scoring margin in first round games under Walz is +26.1. The Cardinals are 16-7 all-time in the first round and were 4-7 prior to Walz's arrival.

The Cardinals are 9-2 all-time in the second round under Walz. They are 9-6 all-time in the second round and were 0-4 before Walz's arrival.

UofL is seeking its 10th ever appearance in the Sweet 16 and all 10 appearances have come during head coach Jeff Walz's 14-year tenure. Louisville is seeking its eighth Sweet 16 appearance since 2011, which would rank fifth in the country.
