Cardinals Fall to #22 Virginia Tech in First Round of ACC Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team could not overcome a pair of goals late in the first half as they suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 22 Virginia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament Wednesday, November 6 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
 
The Cardinals drop to 8-7-2 on the year while the Hokies improve to 9-5-2 on the season.
 
Haji Abdikadir attempted to give the Cardinals an early lead in the second minute, but his shot from the top of the box was stopped by the Hokie goalkeeper. William Portman had another chance to give Louisville the lead in the 34th minute, but his shot sailed just above the crossbar.
 
Virginia Tech scored twice off a pair of free kicks in the final three minutes of the first half. Jon Ingason put the Hokies on the board in the 43rd minute while Daniel Pereira doubled their lead with three seconds left in the first half.
 
The Cardinals' best scoring chance in the second half came in the 69th minute when Leonard Getz fired a shot from the left side, but the ball bounced off the far post. Jake Gelnovatch recorded two saves between the posts for the Cardinals.
 
The bracket for the 2019 NCAA Men's College Cup will be revealed Monday, Nov. 18 at 1:00 p.m.
