September 30, 2020 | Women's Soccer

The Cardinals and the Orange will begin play at 4 p.m. ET.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a two-game trip to Florida to begin the 2020 campaign, University of Louisville women's soccer opens the home portion of its schedule against Syracuse on Thursday at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.

The Cardinals are 1-1 to start the season with a 3-0 win at Miami and a 1-0 defeat at No. 2 Florida State.

Senior goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos recorded a career-high nine saves in the Cardinals' loss at FSU. It marked the most saves in a game by a Louisville goalkeeper since Taylor Bucklin had 10 in a 0-0 tie vs. Duke at Lynn Stadium on Oct. 11, 2015. Kouzelos' previous career-high was six saves, which she had accomplished three times.

Through two games, she ranks third in the ACC and 10th in the country with a .909 save percentage. Her 5.0 saves per game rank third in the ACC and 14th in the NCAA.

Louisville is 12-6-2 in home openers under head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. They have won their last six home openers, with their last loss a 5-4 overtime defeat to No. 17 Illinois on Aug. 25, 2013. They are 4-2 all-time in ACC home openers. The last time UofL opened the home portion of its ACC schedule against Syracuse was Sept. 19, 2014 (W, 1-0), their first ever ACC game.

ABOUT THE ORANGE

Syracuse went 3-11-2, and 1-7-1 in the ACC, last year in head coach Nicky Adams' first season at the helm. The Orange will be led by senior defenders Shannon Aviza and Clarke Brown, along with senior midfielder Mackenzie Vlachos. While Aviza and Brown are expected to be part of a last line of defense, Vlachos will be a key cog in a more aggressive offensive approach in 2020. Another critical performer in the senior class is goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx. Proulx started all 16 games a year ago and led the ACC in saves (96). Syracuse fell 2-0 in its season-opener to Pitt despite Proulx's career-high tying 10 saves.

Series History - Louisville is 6-0-1 all-time against the Orange and 3-0-1 in Louisville. The Cardinals have won four straight games against the Orange. All six wins over the Orange have been shutouts and the lone Syracuse goal came in a 1-1 double overtime tie in Louisville on Sept. 21, 2012.

Last Meeting (September 26, 2019) - Louisville defeated Syracuse 3-0 on Friday morning at the SU Soccer Complex to improve to 8-1 on the season and 1-1 in ACC play. The Cardinals struck early in the first half when Emina Ekic sent a cross to Arianna Ferraro who sent a pass inside the box to Delaney Snyder.  Snyder tapped the ball into the right post for a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play.  Louisville finished the game with a 16-6 shot advantage while both teams finished with three corner kicks.  Proulx finished with five saves while Kouzelos finished with four.
