Jovic is still in the Ville and still hard at work

Throughout the remainder of the 2020 spring semester, we will check in with the players on the University of Louisville women's tennis team as they complete their semesters online. This week we check in with Nikolina Jovic, a junior from Banja Luka, Bosnia.

Q: What are your thoughts on spring season being canceled?
A: It is very sad that our tennis season is canceled due to Coronavirus. My team worked so hard to prepare for following matches and it is very disappointing that we did not have chance to compete with all heart on the court.

Q: What are you doing with yourself during your free time?
A: During my free time, I am trying to stay active as much as possible. Also, I read books and spend time with my boyfriend and his family.

Q: What did you have originally plan for spring break?
A: Originally, for spring break I planned to spend more time on tennis court to prepare better for the match against Boston College.

Q: How are you continuing to stay in shape during this time?
A: To continue being in a good shape, every day I run 5km, walk 5km, and do exercises and workouts provided by athletic trainers and performance trainers.

Q: What were your impressions of the season before it was canceled?
A: My impressions about season up to this point are very good. I truly believe that my team had chance to qualify for NCAA tournament this year.

Q: What have you missed during the shutdown and how have you kept in touch?
A: Being the part of Cardinal community has special place in my heart. I will miss my teammates, coaches, athletic trainers, performance trainers, nutritionist and all people who helped us to be successful on the court.  My teammates and me have kept communicated via text messages in our team group chat, Zoom and via social media.

Q: What would you like to say to Card Nation?
A: I would like to say to Card Nation: "Stay at home, be safe, and we will survive this crisis with Coronavirus. My team will come back even stronger next year. Go Cards!"

Q: What is your favorite memory from this year?
A: My favorite memory of the season is our trip to Hawaii.

Q: What is your favorite memory as a Cardinal?
A: My favorite memory as a Cardinal is when I clinched match against Clemson and my team won 4-3 after a long match. I will always remember that day because even if I was injured, I played with all my heart for the team.

Q: How are you spending your time?
A: I was unfortunately unable to go home because it is prohibited for me to go to Europe due to Coronavirus. I have focused on the school work and in a free time I watch my favorite shows on Netflix.

Q: How have people in your family been directly affected by the virus?
A: Although my family has to stay at the home as restriction from government, my family is good and safe. The Coronavirus only affected their work schedule.
