Van Lith Represents USA at FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series in Montreal

USA won pool A with a 3-0 record, but fell to Austria in the semifinals.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Louisville women's basketball sophomore guard Hailey Van Lith represented the USA at the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series stop in Montreal on Sept. 3-4.
 
She was joined by Jordan Reynolds (Tennessee/Portland, Ore.), Breanna Richardson (Mississippi State/Conyers, Ga.) and Camille Zimmerman (Columbia/Mesa, Ariz.).
 
Playing in Group A on Friday, USA opened with an 18-16 overtime win over Germany as Van Lith contributed five points. They withstood a late rally by Austria to preserve a 15-14 victory in the second game and then closed pool play with a 16-14 win over Netherlands. Van Lith contributed four points and four rebounds against Austria and then finished with a team-high nine points in the win over the Netherlands. 

Van Lith paced the USA in its three victories with 18 points, which tied as the top output on the day. She added four key assists and eight rebounds.

With a 3-0 record in pool play, USA won the pool and advanced to the semifinals against Austria. They fell behind early, but rallied to trim the lead and had a chance with three second left down by two. But, Van Lith's shot missed to the left and USA fell 17-15. Van Lith finished with five points and a team-high six rebounds in the semifinal.

USA teams also participated in the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Constanta stop that was played Aug. 14-15 and won the Klaipeda stop that was played July 30-31.
 
The USA is hoping to earn an invitation to the 2021 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Final, which will be played on Sept. 18-19 in Bucharest. The host nation of Romania and the top seven teams in the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series season standings will earn an invitation to the event.
 
Van Lith recently played for the USA at the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League at stops four, five and six on Aug. 2, 3, 4 in Voiron, France. Van Lith has four gold medals with USA Basketball, including 3x3 gold at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup, where she was named MVP, and at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. She owns USA five-on-five gold medals from the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup.
 
Van Lith participated in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship, finishing second, and in the 2018 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship, where her team won the title. She also attended trials for the 2021 USA AmeriCup Team.
 
In 2020-21, she helped lead Louisville to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and was named to the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team and 2021 ACC All-Tournament first team.
 
Reynolds and Richardson recently competed for USA Basketball in the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Constanta stop, going 2-2 and losing in the semifinals, while Richardson went 5-0 with the USA and won the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Klaipeda stop.
