No. 3 Louisville Plays at Pitt on Thursday

February 17, 2021 | Women's Basketball

The Cardinals and the Panthers will tip off at 8 p.m. E.T. on Thursday on ACCN and 790-AM WKRD.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball plays at Pitt (5-9, 3-8) on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. The game will broadcast on ACC Network and 790-AM WKRD.

The Cardinals (19-1, 12-1) are coming off an 85-70 win over Georgia Tech on Senior Night. They enter this week at No. 2 in the USA Today and No. 3 in the Associated Press polls.

At 19-1, Louisville is one win away from reaching 20 wins for the 11th straight season to extend the program record. The longest run previously was three, achieved twice. With one more win, the Cards will have won at least 20 games in 13 of head coach Jeff Walz's 14 seasons. Prior to Walz's arrival, Louisville had just 10 20-win seasons in its history.

At 12-1 (.923) in Atlantic Coast Conference play, UofL leads NC State (8-2, .800) with three games remaining. With the unbalanced schedule, this year's regular season conference champion will be determined by winning percentage.

Kianna Smith had 21 points to tie her career-high in the win over Georgia Tech. She also had 21 points in her Louisville debut against DePaul.

UofL is 5-0 in true road games this year and 40-4 over the past four seasons.

Earlier on Wednesday, Walz was named to the Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List. He is one of 15 coaches named to the list and one of two from the Atlantic Coast Conference – joined by NC State's Wes Moore.

Despite losing five seniors from last year's team and returning just two starters, Walz has led the Cardinals to a 19-1 overall record, 12-1 in ACC play. Louisville won its first 16 games and reached No. 1 in the Associated Press and USA Today polls for the first time in program history.
