Cardinals’ goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch to face his father George, the head coach of the Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Son vs Father, Battle of Nationally Ranked Teams, Conference Rivals, the storylines will be plentiful when the 24th ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team travels to No. 1 Virginia Friday night (Oct. 4). Even though it will be a battle of top-25 teams, the bigger storyline line could be that Cardinals' goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch will face his father, George, the 23-year head coach of the Cavaliers.

• Louisville leads the all-time series 3-1-1.
• The last time these two teams met resulted in a 0-0 draw in the ACC Championship quarterfinal. The 6th ranked Cardinals would fall to the 16th ranked Cavs 4-3 in the shootout.
• It will be the second time Louisville goalie Jake Gelnovatch will face his father, UVA head coach George Gelnovatch. Jake started in goal during the 2017 match and made one save in the shutout.
• The Cards are 4-5 all-time against the No. 1 team in the country, including a 1-4 record on the road. UofL knocked off then-No. 1 Wake Forest on the road last year 2-1 in overtime.
• The Cardinals are 5-8-1 all-time on October 4, with their last game coming in 2016 in a 6-0 win over Belmont. The Cards are 2-1 all-time against ranked opponents on this day.
