Cards recorded their fifth shutout of the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Thanks to three goals in the second half, the 24th-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout over Belmont at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Tuesday night (Oct. 1).

The win marks the Cardinals' fifth shutout of the year, as they improve to 5-2-2 on the season. Belmont falls to 2-7-1.

Despite leading the Bruins 11-2 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks during the first half, the Cardinals were unable to find the back of the net.

Out-shooting Belmont 12-0 in the second half, Louisville broke the scoreless tie in the 69th minute. After getting around two Bruin defenders, Cherif Dieye netted his fifth goal of the season, as he buried a shot into the lower left corner of the near post.

Just 61 seconds later, the Cardinals doubled their lead when Kino Ryosuke found the back of the net in the 70th minute. Elijah Amo sent a pass through a pair of Belmont defenders to Ryosuke, who fired a shot into the lower left corner of the far post.

Ryosuke's second goal of the game, and third of the season, came in the 79th minute to give the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage. With an assist from Cody Cochran off of a short pass inside the box, Ryosuke sent a shot over a Bruin defender to the top right corner of the net.

The Cardinal defense held Belmont without a shot on goal and just two shots overall, as the Cards finished the game out-shooting the Bruins 23-2.
