Emil Elveroth scored the game-winner in 96th minute

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Emil Elveroth's goal in the 96th minute sealed a 1-0 overtime victory for the University of Louisville men's soccer team over Northern Kentucky Tuesday night (Oct. 15) at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

With the win, the Cardinals recorded their sixth shutout of the year and improve to 6-4-2 on the season. The Norse drop to 4-7-1.

UofL had 11 shots in the first half, with four of those coming on target. The Cardinals had their best chance in the 36th minute when Cherif Dieye put a shot past the NKU keeper, but a Norse defenseman kept it out of the back of the net. Louisville out-shot Northern Kentucky 9-0 in the second half, putting another four shots on goal.

At the end of regulation, the Cardinals held a 20-4 advantage in shots over the Norse.

In the 96th minute, Izaiah Jennings' shot from the left side of the box slipped through the Norse's goalkeeper's gloves. Elveroth was there to tap the rebound home into the bottom left corner of the net for his third goal of the season and send the Cards home with the victory.

Louisville's defense and goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch held NKU without a shot attempt in the final 61:01 of the game. Gelnovatch finished with one save.

The Cardinals return to conference action Friday, October 18, as they host Boston College inside Lynn Stadium at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
