No. 16 Louisville Battles Notre Dame to a Scoreless Tie

October 13, 2019 | Women's Soccer

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 16th ranked University of Louisville women's soccer team battled Notre Dame to a scoreless tie on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.  With the tie, Louisville moves to 11-1-1 on the year and 4-1-1 in ACC play.

The first half started off very back and forth with neither team really getting a chance at the goal.  Notre Dame's best chance came in the 19th minute but Gabby Kouzelos was able to make the save.  Maisie Whitsett had a chance for Louisville in the 28th minute but Notre Dame's Brooke Littman was able to grab the save.

Notre Dame finished with a 4-2 shot advantage and a 6-1 corner kick advantage in the half.  Both teams finished with one save.

The second half was pretty much the same as the first half.  Emina Ekic had two great chances for the Cards in the second half.  In the 50th minute her shot was saved by Littman.  In the final seconds of the half, Ekic's free kick sailed just above the crossbar, sending the game into overtime.

Both teams finished with five shots and one corner kick in the second half.  Kouzelos finished with two saves.

Kouzelos was able to make saves in both overtime periods, ending the match in a scoreless tie.  She tied her season-high with five saves.   Notre Dame finished the match with an 11-7 shot advantage and a 10-2 corner kick advantage.

Louisville will back in action on Friday, Oct. 18 as they host No. 11 Duke in Lynn Stadium at 5:00 p.m.
