No. 13 Louisville Hosts Senior Day against Notre Dame on Sunday

The Cardinals and Fighting Irish will begin play at 1:30 on Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 13 University of Louisville women's soccer returns home to Lynn Stadium to host Senior Day against Notre Dame on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.  The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
 
Last Sunday, the Cardinals won 1-0 at Virginia Tech despite being held to just five shots. 
 
Morgan Bentley's lone shot was the difference in the matchup as she scored her first career goal in the 33' minute to give Louisville the victory, improving the Cardinals to 4-2 on the season.
 
Senior Gabby Kouzelous continued her defensive dominance against the Hokies, posting eight total saves and her fourth shutout of the season.  In the 89' minute of the match, Virginia Tech had a chance to tie the match with a cross on target, but Kouzelous made an incredible save to seal the victory for the Cardinals.
 
Prior to the match on Sunday, UofL will recognize four seniors - Lana Batson, Emina Ekic, Amari Hopkins and Taylor Kerwin. This year's senior class has compiled a 38-21-4 record and has made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Lana Batson - Served as backup goalkeeper the past three seasons. In 2019, she saw action in three games, including a pair of shutout wins over Morehead State and Eastern Michigan.
 
Emina Ekic - Named First Team All-ACC following her sophomore and junior campaigns. She was named Louisville's first ever Second Team All-American by the United States Soccer Coaches Association a season ago after becoming the school's seventh All-American as a sophomore. She is the first Cardinal to earn back-to-back All-American honors since Joanna Haig in 2006 and 2007.
 
Amari Hopkins - Has seen action in 10 games. In 2018, she saw action in eight games and recorded a shot against Eastern Kentucky. Had a shot against Eastern Michigan last season.
 
Taylor Kerwin - Has played in 56 matches in her career with four goals, three assists and 11 points, while attempting 22 shots. She has scored at least one goal in each of her four seasons. Has started all six games this year, lone goal was a game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Boston College.
 
About the Fighting Irish

Notre Dame enters its matchup against Louisville looking to bounce back after two straight losses to Wake Forest and Clemson in South Bend. They were ranked No. 14 prior to the back-to-back losses. The Fighting Irish are led by sophomore forward Kiki Van Zanten with six goals on the year (1.00 pg).  Junior duo Luisa Delgado and Brooke VanDyck each lead Notre Dame with two assists on the year (0.33 pg).  Defensively, the Fighting Irish generally play junior goalkeeper Mattie Interian, who has amassed over 530 minutes this season, in which she had tallied 16 saves (.667 pct).
 
Series History

Louisville is 4-11-1 all-time against Notre Dame in a rivalry that dates back 1989, where the Cardinals defeated the Irish 1-0 in South Bend.  Since joining the ACC in 2014, Louisville is 1-2-1 against Notre Dame, last defeating the Fighting Irish 2-0 at Lynn Stadium in 2018.
 
Last Meeting (Oct. 13, 2019)

No. 16 Nationally ranked Louisville battled Notre Dame to a scoreless tie in South Bend, Ind.  The first half started off back and forth with neither team really getting a chance at goal.  Notre Dame's best chance came in the 19th minute but Kouzelos was able to make a save.  In the second half, Louisville's Ekic had a great chance with a free kick to score right at the end of the half, but the ball sailed just above the crossbar, sending the game into overtime.  Kouzelos continued her defensive dominance in overtime as the match ended with a draw.
