Louisville Travels to No. 24 Notre Dame on Thursday

The Cardinals and Fighting Irish will kick off at 8 p.m. ET.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Wake Forest on Saturday, University of Louisville women's soccer hits the road to take on No. 24 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Thursday night. The match will begin at 8 p.m. ET and broadcast on Bally Sports South.

Louisville enters Thursday's match with a 7-2-1 overall record and they are 3-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
 
It marks the second straight season that UofL has opened with three wins in its first four ACC games. Last season, Louisville finished 4-4 in the league following its 3-1 start. The Cardinals last started 4-1 in league play in 2019. That season, they finished 5-3-2 in the ACC.
 
Sophomore Emma Hiscock recorded her first career game-winner in the 99th minute of the 2-1 overtime win over Wake Forest. She leads the team with four goals.
 
Sixth year goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos had a season-high eight saves against Wake Forest. She has played all 942 minutes in net this season and has 38 saves and a .731 save percentage. She now has 230 saves for her career, which ranks fourth all-time in UofL program history.
 
Louisville faces its third ranked team of the year on Thursday. They are 0-1-1 against ranked teams this year with a 1-1 tie against No. 16 Michigan and a loss to No. 1 Florida State.

ABOUT THE FIGHTING IRISH

Notre Dame enters Thursday's match with a 10-1-1 record and they are a perfect 4-0 in ACC play. In those four ACC matches, the Fighting Irish have outscored their opponents 15-2, including 8-1 in their two ACC home matches. Their lone defeat was a 3-2 overtime defeat at Missouri and they also had a 0-0 tie at home against Indiana. Graduate midfielder Sammi Fisher leads the Irish with 10 goals, which ranks first in the ACC and eighth in the country. Her four game-winning goals lead the conference and rank sixth in the country, while her 21 points rank second in the league and 20th in the NCAA. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Naylor has played 518 minutes in net and has five saves with a .625 save percentage.

Series History: Louisville is 4-12-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish and 2-6-1 in South Bend. The Cardinals' two wins at Notre Dame came on Sept. 24, 1989 (W, 1-0), which marked the first game ever between the two teams, and Sept. 16, 2011 (W, 1-0). In between those two wins, Louis­ville lost eight straight against the Fighting Irish. In the last eight matches, dating back to 2011, the Cardinals are 3-4-1 against Notre Dame.
 
Last Meeting (Oct. 25, 2020): No. 13 Louisville came up short 1-0 against Notre Dame at Lynn Stadium. Louisville outshot Notre Dame 6-1 in the first half, but couldn't get on the scoreboard. In the 69th minute, Notre Dame threatened and delivered a cross into the box. Nadege L'Esperance attempted to kick the ball out of the box, but mistimed her slide and was called for a hand ball, which led to a Fighting Irish penalty kick. Notre Dame's Camryn Dyke then delivered the ball to the bottom right of the net, while Gabby Kouzelos dove to her left, to put the Fighting Irish up 1-0 on the penalty. The Cardinals finished with seven corner kicks to Notre Dame's three and had their best opportunities from the corner. Notre Dame outshot Louisville 6-3 in the second half, but over­all the Cardinals won the shot battle, 9-7.
