No. 2 Louisville Uses Balanced Scoring to Defeat Boston College 79-49 in ACC Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Emily Engstler scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds as No. 2 Louisville defeated Boston College 79-49 on Thursday night inside the KFC Yum! Center.
Louisville (11-1, 1-0 ACC) recorded its 11th straight win and won its conference opener for the ninth straight season. The Cardinals showed their depth with five players scoring in double figures.
Both teams struggled to generate offense to start the first quarter, combining for just 12 points at the media timeout. Louisville forced eight Boston College turnovers to take a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Cardinals shot 63 percent in the second quarter to take a 35-24 lead going into the locker room.
Louisville extended its lead to as much as 23 in the third quarter, which was ignited by a quick 9-0 run. UofL scored 10 points off seven Boston College turnovers in the quarter.
The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 20-12 in the final quarter to cruise to the 79-49 win.
"I was really pleased with how we performed," head coach Jeff Walz said. "I thought the third quarter, offensively, we shared the basketball, and the efficiency was impressive to me."
Payton Verhulst tied a career-high 12 points and Hailey Van Lith added 12 points on 5-10 shooting. Olivia Cochran and Liz Dixon chipped in 10 points each.
Louisville held Boston College to 35 percent shooting overall and 2-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Taylor Soule scored 12 points to lead the Eagles (8-4, 0-2 ACC).
Up next, Louisville travels to Atlanta to face No. 16 Georgia Tech on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.
