Louisville Baseball Announces 2022 Captains

Ben Bianco, Carter Lohman and Ben Metzinger will serve as the captains for the 2022 season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With the season just over two months away, the University of Louisville baseball program has announced its captains for the 2022 season.
 
Senior Ben Bianco and juniors Carter Lohman and Ben Metzinger were selected by UofL players and coaches as the captains for the upcoming year.
 
Bianco is in his fifth year in the program having played 45 games across the last four seasons. The Oxford, Miss., native has a .267 career batting average with four home runs and 19 RBIs In 75 career at-bats.
 
Lohman is beginning his fourth season with the Cardinals with 23 career appearances on the mound under his belt. The southpaw was 2-2 last season and closed the year out with three strong appearances in the month of May. Lohman picked up the victory with one run allowed over four innings against No. 2 Vanderbilt, then tossed four innings of shutout ball against Miami and struck out eight over four innings in the ACC Tournament against Clemson.
 
Metzinger is also headed into his fourth season with the Cardinals. The local product has a career .291 batting average with five home runs and 22 RBIs. Metzinger his .349 in the shortened 2020 season before missing the majority of the 2021 campaign due to injury. He did start both of Louisville's ACC Tournament contests, going 5-for-11 with three home runs and six RBIs.
 
The Cardinals open the season Feb. 18-20 at South Florida with games against Charlotte, USF and Connecticut in Tampa, Fla.
