Rowing Announces Pair of Signees in Branum and Oestreich

April 17, 2020 | Rowing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville rowing head coach Derek Copeland has announced the addition of a pair of student-athletes in Paige Branum (Lakeside Park, Kentucky/Holy Cross) and Olivia Oestreich (Farmington Hills, Michigan/Homeschooled) to compete for the Cardinals beginning with the 2020-21 season.

Name: Paige Branum
High School: Holy Cross
Hometown: Lakeside Park, Kentucky

Branum on becoming a Cardinal: I chose UofL because I feel the campus is a welcoming environment and the rowing team instantly felt like family. I love that the team encourages success both on and off the water. I'm looking forward to building friendships with my new teammates and striving to reach my full potential.

Assistant Coach Hannah Ritter's thoughts on Branum: Paige is a hardworking and exciting athlete, someone who is developing in this sport quickly. We are all looking forward to having her join our team this fall, and can't wait to watch her work, grow, and lead alongside her Cardinal teammates.

Name: Olivia Oestreich
High School: Homeschooled
Hometown: Farmington Hills, Michigan

Oestreich on becoming a Cardinal: The drive and determination of the young women on the team and the coaches, watching them have the same passion for rowing. Listening to the way they talked about their love for the team and the school made it evident that I have found the perfect family for the next four years!

Assistant Coach Samantha Sarff's thoughts on Oestreich: We're very happy to have Olivia join the Louisville Rowing program. She's a strong athlete and rower with a great amount of talent that will help her have a successful career as a Cardinal. When we started recruiting Olivia, one of the first things she said was that she was looking for a team that competes and makes each other faster every single day. She found that with Louisville and we're excited to see her join into the competition next year.
